Thursday, December 12, 6:00-8:00 pm – Performance Analysis Workshop added to National Coaches Forum schedule!
Lead educators for this workshop will be Phil Edwards, Senior Manager of Coaching & Performance and Chris Fry, Performance Analyst for the Women’s National Team.
The USA Field Hockey Performance Analysis Workshop returns in 2019 free for National Coaches Forum attendees! The workshop will provide attendees with insight into some of the latest developments in field hockey performance analysis along with practical examples of analysis workflows that can be applied in their own environment to enhance performance. The workshop is not software-specific and delegates will leave with impactful analysis tools and ideas even if their current “software” consists of pen and paper.
Edwards joined the U.S. Women's National Team coaching staff in February 2017. In September 2018, he transitioned into the role of Senior Manager of Coaching and Performance for the women's program which includes the development and implementation of The USA Way and the all-new Goalkeeper Development Framework.
No stranger to the national team setting, Edwards has served as the Junior High-Performance Goalkeeping Coach for the U-17, U-19 and U-21 National Teams. In 2013, he was the assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team program and 2 years later, took on the role of Performance Analyst for the senior men’s and women’s national teams at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.
Edwards is a USA Field Hockey Level 3 Certified Coach and works closely with the Coach Education & Learning Program as a National Trainer and curriculum developer. He also leads Level 1 & 2 Instructional Clinics and workshops around the country.
Previously, Edwards was in the collegiate sports system as the assistant coach for Boston College from 2015 to 2016 as well as the associate/interim head coach of Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. In this role, he generated the student-athlete development framework, supporting performance analysis and a video feedback system. He also created effective fitness testing and tracking systems and was responsible for domestic and international talent identification and recruiting.
As an athlete, Edwards was part of England’s U-18 National Squad in 2000 and went on to represent Loughborough University, while majoring in BEng Materials Engineering.
Since February of 2017, Fry has worked as performance analyst for the USA Field Hockey Women's National Team. He has traveled to provide video analysis for games and tournaments around the world, including the World League Semi Finals in South Africa, the World League Final in New Zealand, the 2018 World Cup in England, and various locations for the FIH Pro League.
